Teapot heaven and otherworldliness!

Carola is currently developing her work with antique teapots, exploring and expressing her lifelong interest in religious shrines and reliquaries, automata & mourning art and the histories behind objects, and trying to work out how she can possibly cram them all together to create interesting, beautiful, precious objects of wonder.

Many of these pieces express the feelings, interests and emotions of the artist, however the sculptures displayed here also have a more functional use.

Carola has recently joined Cross Street Studios in Hove and designs jewellery under the name ‘Lux & Love’.

Biog:
Carola graduated from Wolves Uni in 1995 with a BA(Hons) in 3D glass design and upon leaving began a career as a prop maker, working in theatre, opera and theme park design.

Since moving to Brighton in 1996 Carola has also tried many other things, among them accessories designer, production stylist, workshop manager, events co-ordinator & cabaret hostess. A 3 year spell as a retail display designer for clients such as Selfridges, Harrods, Top Man and Ann Summers convinced her to give it up and follow her true interests.

Rebecca J Coles ... a journey travelling with a pencil, paper and a pair of scissors...

I am fascinated with the materialisation of constructing flat sheets of paper into three-dimensional decorative forms. Accommodating an obsession for collecting and a desire to make things, I deconstruct paper ephemera to create unique artwork. The ethos of my work and the methods of my practise delineate an absolute labour of love.
Each profile is intricately hand cut from carefully selected paper, focusing on recycling a medium that would otherwise be discarded and lost. I reshape small details of colour, imagery and text into delicate silhouettes that are then re-sculptured and encased, thus transforming an every day object into a piece of work that invites the viewer to see beyond its original source.
The reinvention of the art of entomology combined with a desire for arrangement means my work focuses on the assemblages of shapes with themes stemming from nature. Cutting out the paper shapes, I dissect images in order to examine the detail of the original form. Filling a structure with different imagery offers a different visual perspective.

Repetition has always been notable in my work, and each piece is composed of hundreds of hand cut profiles. This, just as the value of time spent making each piece becomes equally important to the final story.

Rebecca will be exhibiting more work with us at The Bungeroosh Gallery this May as a part of Brighton Festival of Artists Open Houses. The exhibition starts May 7th and is open the following weekends in May 11 am to 5,30 pm.

More Lux & Love coming to Bungeroosh this May.

Designer and maker Carola Del Mese creates jewellery under the name ‘Lux & Love’. She uses 60% reclaimed materials, raids the brass bins at the metal recycling centre and uses genuine vintage charms and chains, combining them with carefully selected new materials, semi precious stones and pearls.

Lux & Love has recently launched 2 new collections - Arabian Nights and Tattoo Parlour, featuring high quality charms cast from antique originals exclusively for Lux & Love here in the UK. These charms have been brought back to life by combining them with jewels and other treasures to make unique and limited edition pieces.

Themed collections for the future include Crown Jewels, using royal regalia charms and huge jewelled nuggets, and Circus, using traditional circus themed charms.

Lux & Love’s jewellery has been selling successfully for the last 2 years exclusively at open houses and just a couple of selected shops, and February 2011 saw the launch of the new online shop at www.luxandlove.co.uk
